imagine if this was SIS
but where is the data coming from
well does this question look familiar
St Olaf is sitting on a lot of course data
Course evaluations provide St Olaf with a lot of data on teaching effectiveness I want this information to be accessible to us so that we can make better informed decisions this does not necessarily mean a simple number on SIS the above picture is just a proof of concept Some institutions regularly publicize the entirety of course evaluations to its students If elected I will work with the college to prioritize data transparency with us

imagine if you could know study abroad hotspots for your major s or concentration s
St Olaf could take advantage of study abroad insights through advising
In my sophomore year I collaborated with the Smith Center as a data science student to create tools like the one above As Secretary of Academic Affairs I will work to make these tools sustainable and accessible to students and advisors alike beginning very early in their St Olaf career This can help demystify myths insert major with busy schedule can t study abroad or only insert major majors study abroad at insert study abroad program using real data

Those were few ways how I plan to

give you the data to
make the best
academic decisions

But that is not the only reason why I’m running for Secretary of

Academic Affairs

Let's

Talk

about

carleton

inter-registration

what is

inter-registration?

St. Olaf students can take courses at Carleton. However, there are many approvals needed

per course.

like how many Emails?

streamlining the process

If elected, I will work with the Registrar Office to create a searchable database of all historically approved courses at Carleton (just like the one we have for study abroad). This will reduce the time needed to plan inter-registration!

FT your conduct record

Conduct Record

St. Olaf reports your conduct record to graduate schools. I want to make it possible for students to request expunging (i.e. wiping) low-level infractions from their records.

This is especially targeted at:

  • Alcohol and smoking policies infractions
  • Infractions that occur during a student’s first year of college
Black Right Arrow

Widely accepted

Many colleges allow students to request such expungements (e.g. WashU) or simply expunge most offenses after graduation (hi Carleton!).

Black Right Arrow

Unfair setback

St. Olaf already sanctions students when they are found in violation of policies. Reporting this information years later to graduate schools is unfairly sanctioning them again for the same act.

As Secretary of Academic Affairs, and co-chair of Campus Affairs Board, I will work with the Dean of Students office to pursue this project.
